Ellsworth Fire Department's annual chicken feed Saturday

The 27th annual Ellsworth Fire Department chicken feed will be from approximately noon-8 p.m. Saturday at the Ellsworth Fire Hall.

Proceeds from the feed will help support the operation of the fire department, as it's their main fundraiser for the year.

To show how much the feed has grown over the years, Fire Department Member Tom Bjork explained that, when it started, his father Roger said the goal was to sell around 500-600 chickens. Last year, the number was around 4,700, with this year's goal to top the 5,000 mark.

"We've been absolutely blessed by the support we've gotten," said fellow member David Deiss.

Bjork explained guests have three options: they can eat at the Fire Hall, have carry-out or curbside service. Quarter and half chicken dinners will be available, and will come with beans, coleslaw and a bun.
