PRESCOTT -- Dani Monteith, Brandi Huppert and Katie Westberg share a common trait besides all being friends: the trio is fortunate a friend or family member has never been diagnosed with breast cancer.

"At some point, one of us is going to be directly impacted by this disease," Monteith said.

Instead of not concerning themselves about breast cancer, the three of them decided to take action. They will participate in the Twin Cities stop of the Breast Cancer 3-Day walk Aug. 21-23. The walk is a fundraiser benefitting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, with proceeds going toward breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment programs, as well as the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund, to provide an endowment for breast cancer initiatives.

"We're walking for everyone that has been diagnosed and for those that will be diagnosed at some point," Monteith said.

The three are hosting a fundraiser at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at The Valley Bar and Grill on Hwy. 10 between Ellsworth and Prescott. Activities include a wine tasting, silent auction and meat raffle.
