Wisconsin Citizen Action predicts $4,000 savings per family with government health plan competition
The Wisconsin Citizen Action group says the average family would save $4,000 a year if a government health plan ends up competing with private plans.
President Obama says he believes Americans should have a choice between private insurance and government coverage, with a ban on denying coverage due to pre-existing conditions.
Obama says it would make the health care market more competitive, and keep insurance companies honest.
The Citizen Action group says it projects lower health costs for Wisconsinites, based on what they paid for group coverage last year in comparison to the projected premiums under Obama's proposal.
Citizen Action also said employers in the Badger State would save $1.8 billion under the proposed changes.
But critics say the presence of a government plan would drive up costs and it would not offer the same options as private insurance now does.
