County christens Trimbelle Recreation Area

County Board Chairman Paul Barkla and fellow Board Member Mel Pittman participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Trimbelle Recreation Area Thursday.

TOWN OF TRIMBELLE--Providing handicap accessible opportunities along the Trimbelle River has long been a goal for Pierce County officials.

Thursday, that goal became reality as the Trimbelle Recreation Area, located on CTH O, was christened.

"It took the work of a lot of people to make this happen," said County Board Chairman Paul Barkla. "We believe this place will get well-used."

Barkla addressed a small crowd made up of fellow county board members, county officials and local dignitaries who helped in the construction of the area.

He commended numerous people for their help, including Ralph Schommer from the Trimbelle Rod and Gun Club, former Highway Commissioner Ross Christopherson, Trimbelle Chairman Jim Harris, Dave Sander, Arby Linder, Tom Buckner, Land Management Director Andy Pichotta and the Land Management Committee.

The Trimbelle Recreation Area is located approximately five miles west of Ellsworth on CTH O and just one-half mile south of Hwy. 10. The area is open to visitors from sunrise to sunset.

It features 11 acres of river frontage, four picnic shelters, a .25 mile paved hiking trail and the four handicap accessible opportunities along the Trimbelle River, a class II trout stream. No fees are required.

The property was acquired by the Pierce County Land Management Committee through a park land dedication associated with a neighboring land division. The majority of the property is river bottom, with over 750 feet of river footage.
