Christiansen finishes third in Worlds

Nicholas Christiansen was in a good mood when describing his performance at the World Ringside Boxing Tournament.

"It was very tough, just like I'd thought it would be," the Ellsworth teenager explained. "But, I'm very happy with my results."

Christiansen finished third in his age bracket, 15-16, at 125 pounds earlier this month in Kansas City, Mo.

He said the tournament was well attended, as there were competitors from Ireland, England, New Zealand, Spain, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Kenya.

In his first fight, Christiansen fought Anthony Larios of Kansas and a panel of five judges declared him a 3-2 winner.

"He came out fast in the first round (the fights were three two-minute rounds)," Christiansen said. "And by the second round, he grew tired and started clubbing me with his forearm rather than boxing.

"The third round, we were both tired and were throwing as many punches as possible."
