UPDATE: Pepin man dies in accident

A 47-year-old Pepin man died Wednesday afternoon when the Jeep he was riding went off the highway and landed on the railroad tracks.

Steven Glaus was northbound on State Highway 35 near Maiden Rock when his truck veered off the left side, entered the ditch, traveled down an embankment and onto the railroad tracks where it came to rest, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department. The accident happened around 1:18 p.m.

EMS personnel attempted to revive him, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a county medical examiner.

The Sheriff's Department said that there was no collision with any other vehicle or train and that this accident remains under investigation.
