Good showing for county athletes at Blue Devil Open

MENOMONIE - Ellsworth and Elmwood-Plum City's boys and girls prep tack and field teams participated at 18-team Blue Devil Open held at UW-Stout's Johnson Fieldhouse Tuesday.

E-PC's boys squad has an impressive sixth place showing while Ellsworth in the boys' meet. Ellsworth's girls also scored well in their meet while the Red Devils were 15th. The competition including a mix of Division 1, 2 and 3 schools from around with Wisconsin along with Class AAA Rochester, Minn. Century.

Elmwood-PC's boys team had two first places: Alex Gilles in the 400-meter run in :53.58 seconds and the team's 1600-meter relay squad in 3:30.39. E-PC's 3200-meter relay team was second in 8:51. E-PC's Gabe Rodriguez placed third in the 200-meter dash in :23.70 seconds.

Ellsworth's girls were led by Lydia Kuhl's second place showing in the long jump with a lead of 14 feet, 11 inches. The 1600-meter relay team finished fifth and Carlie Melstrom had the second fastest time in the 55-meter dash behind state champion Maya Vasquez of Arcadia in the prelims before placing fourth in the finals. Kuhl also finished fifth in the 55-meter hurdles.
