Spring Valley's 6-5 win over Elmwood in Thursday's WIAA Division 4 regional final game in Spring Valley means the Cardinals are the only Pierce County prep baseball or softball team left standing after yesterday's regional finals.

Prescott's baseball team fell at St. Croix Falls 8-6 in Division 2, meaning the Cardinals will not be around when the sectional tournament is in town Tuesday.

The PHS softball team was routed by Arcadia in Division 3 by a surprising 14-2 score at home.

Valley will play Tuesday at approximately 1:10 p.m. in Bruce against top-ranked Chippewa Falls McDonell, the defending sectional champ and one of the top baseball teams in the state. The Macks shutout Bruce 3-0 to win their regional crown once again.

Spring Valley is in the sectional tournament for the first time since 2004. They lost to McDonell in the finals that year.

Spring Valley rallied from a 5-2 deficit with four runs in their last at bats.

The top five batters in the Cards' line-up combined for eight hits. Lead-off Braden Johnson had three hits and two RBIs while Russell Hague had two hits and two RBIs. Jon Newton and Brandon Biggs both scored twice for SV. Derek Biggs was the winning pitcher.
