Inmate hospitalized after injuring self with razor blade

A 56-year-old man was hospitalized Monday evening after he apparently used a razor blade to cut himself shortly after he was booked into the Pierce County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct.

Following treatment for the cuts, the man was transported to a psychiatric unit in Cumberland for observation.

Sheriff Nancy Hove said Tuesday the incident didn't involve any of the other inmates at the jail and appeared to be an attempt by the man to win attention.

The man - Terry W. Lawler, of Eau Claire - had been arrested at 3 p.m. Monday by River Falls police after they responded to a complaint at 900 Orange St. in the city.
