UW women's hockey team pegged for second in WCHA preseason poll

MADISON - The Wisconsin women's hockey team is picked to finish second in the WCHA.

A pre-season coaches' poll has Minnesota-Duluth as the favorite to repeat. The Bulldogs won the national title last spring.

Wisconsin junior forward Hilary Knight was named the league's pre-season player-of-the-year. She was the WCHA's player-of-the-year as a freshman - and she spent last season on the U.S. Olympic team that won a silver medal.

Also, Verona native Amanda Kessel of the University of Minnesota was chosen as the pre-season rookie-of-the-year. Her brother Phil plays for Toronto in the NHL. Wisconsin goal-tender Alex Rigsby was second in the voting for the rookie honor.
