Twins' Morneau will not play in postseason

MINNEAPOLIS - If the Twins plan to win the World Series this fall they'll have to do without slugger Justin Morneau, who says he will not play in the post-season.

The All-Star first baseman hasn't played since suffering a concussion July 7th at Toronto. Twins GM Bill Smith says to try to get Morneau ready for the league Championship Series or the World Series is "accelerating the process too quickly." Morneau was hitting .345 with 18 home runs and 56 RBI before he got the concussion.

The Twins open the playoffs against the Yankees Wednesday night at Target Field. The opening game will feature two left-handed pitchers facing each other. Minnesota's Francisco Liriano will take on New York's C.C. Sabathia. Liriano is 14-and-10 this season with a 3.62 earned run average with 201 strikeouts. Sabathia is 21-and-7 on the season with a 3.18 ERA, with 197 strikeouts. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:37 p.m. tomorrow.
