Lynx make UConn's Moore their top draft pick

(Minneapolis, MN) -- The WNBA's Minnesota Lynx made University of Connecticut superstar Maya Moore the top pick of the WNBA Draft on Monday.

Moore's selection was no surprise as the former Huskies star led her team to a record 90-straight wins during one stretch. Moore also won two national championships in her four-year career in college. Minnesota used the fourth pick in the draft to choose Xavier forward Amber Harris. Harris was a four-time all-conference player and two-time conference player of the year.

The Lynx also added two players with local ties during yesterday's draft proceedings. The team chose Jessica Breland with the 13th pick in the draft and traded her to New York in exchange for St. Paul native Angel Robinson and a 2012 second-round pick. Robinson played college ball at Marquette and had been the 22nd pick in the draft by New York. The Lynx also drafted former Benilde-St. Margaret's star Kachine Alexander in the third round. Alexander was a star guard for the University of Iowa. Minnesota also acquired the rights to a young Australian player named Rachel Jerry, a guard.
