Badgers shuck 'Huskers again in Big Ten opener

LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Wisconsin men's basketball team easily won its Big Ten opener last night, 64-40 at Deavany Sports Center.

Junior forward Ryan Evans scored a career-high 22 points, after coming in as the Badgers' fourth-leading scorer with just under 10 per game. Nebraska scored the first seven points, but Wisconsin roared back with a 19-2 run. The Badgers led by seven at the half -- and they later pulled away with a 27-5 run in which the Cornhuskers only hit two baskets in 11 minutes.

Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan said he was pleasantly surprised by Evans' performance. He said Evans kept getting himself open for good shots -- and he took advantage of it.

Toney McCray had 16 points and nine rebounds for Nebraska, which dropped to 8-4 overall.

The 11th-ranked Badgers are the nation's top defensive team, and they've now held opponents to 65 points or less in 18 straight games. Nebraska's 40 points were a season-low. Wisconsin improved to 12-2 overall. They'll host Iowa on Saturday.
