UW rower help U.S. team advance to Olympic semifinals

LONDON, England - Former University of Wisconsin rower Kristin Hedstrom advanced this morning to the semi-finals of the Olympic women's lightweight double sculls.

Hedstrom and U.S. teammate Julie Nichols beat out four other teams to win their repechage heat in a time of seven-minutes, 13.82 seconds. That was just over a second-and-a-half ahead of Canada's Lindsay Jennerich and Patricia Obee. Hedstrom and Nichols were among six teams making the semis, which will be run on Thursday morning at London.

Meanwhile, Stevens Point native Lauren Sesselman will compete later today at the Olympics. She's part of the Canadian women's soccer team that will play Sweden starting at 8:30 this morning.
