US women's basketball team routs Canada, advances to semis

LONDON - The United States women's basketball team advanced to the Olympic semifinals with a 91-48 rout of Canada Tuesday afternoon.

Diana Taurasi led the Americans with 15 points while Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore had 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Team USA held the Canadians to 30-point-two-percent shooting and forced 26 turnovers.

The U.S will play Australia in the semifinals Thursday at 11 a.m. The gold medal game is scheduled for Saturday.


The U.S. women's volleyball team is headed to the Olympic semifinals following a three-set victory over the Dominican Republic. Courtney Thompson started at setter in place of captain and former Gopher star Lindsey Berg, who has an injured left ankle. Team USA coach Hugh McCutcheon called Berg's injury "day-to-day" and is not revealing much about her injury which could give opponents a competitive advantage. The Americans are undefeated in six matches at the London Summer Games and have never won Olympic gold. The U-S will face South Korea in Thursday's semifinals. McCutcheon will coach the University of Minnesota volleyball team following the Olympics.
