NHL cancels early part of schedule

ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota Wild will not be hitting the ice at the Xcel Energy Center for at least three more weeks. The National Hockey League today canceled all regular season games through October 24th.

A total of 82 NHL games were scrapped. The players remain locked out as little progress has been reported on a new collective bargaining agreement with the league.

Wild fans had high expectations for this year's team after free-agents Zach Parise and Ryan Suter signed with Minnesota. The regular season was supposed to start for the Wild a week from tomorrow with a home game against Columbus.
