COTTAGE GROVE, Minn. - The city of Cottage Grove is inviting local veterans to help dedicate its first veterans memorial this weekend.

The ceremony, scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, will celebrate the completion of the Cottage Grove Veterans Memorial that was installed in conjunction with construction of the new City Hall and public safety building, located at 12800 Ravine Parkway S., that opened last week.

Positioned prominently near the front entrance to Cottage Grove City Hall, the memorial honors those who served in the United States military, prisoners of war and those missing in action. It features a simple design-- a small fountain encircled by stone slabs that honor each branch of the military. Surrounding those are brick pavers and stone benches.

The city has invited veterans to participate in Sunday's dedication reception and is offering free rides, sponsored by the Cottage Grove Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Network, to those veterans with mobility issues.

Those with limited mobility who would like to utilize the free ride service have been directed to call (651) 587-1993; or email
