Construction barges for new bridge cleared by Minnesota DNR
HUDSON - Construction barges barred from work on the new St. Croix River bridge near Hudson due to a zebra mussel problem have been cleared by Minnesota.
That state's Department of Natural Resources is trying to identify the three truck drivers who transported those barges from Wisconsin. Transporting invasive species violates Minnesota law.
The mussels were found on the hulls of six of the eight barges hauled to the river two weeks ago. The dead mussels were spotted by a state inspector as he made a final check before the barges were to be put in the river. The truck drivers will be fined $500.
