Police costs for Obama's Green Bay visit tally $32,000

It cost taxpayers an extra $32,000 to guard President Obama during his visit to Green Bay last Thursday. That about what local officials had expected.

The city's police department said it spent more than $22,000 in officers' overtime for the president's town hall meeting on health care at Southwest High School.

Nearby Ashwaubenon spent an extra $3,000 to protect Obama as he went to and from the airport. And the Brown County sheriff's department reports about $7,000 in costs, but $3,000 of it was for officers who were already on duty.

Chief Deputy John Gossage said his agency kept costs down by moving some on-duty officers to the presidential detail.
