Reeking package leads to dope bust

River Falls police arrested a 57-year-old local man Tuesday afternoon, May 3, on drug charges after getting a warrant to search his home at 217 E. Elm St. The case began when police were notified by the U.S. Postal service that a package with that local address smelled of marijuana.

According to Police Chief Roger Leque, a federal search warrant was used to open and examine the package, which allegedly was found to contain a large amount of cash.

At 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, police used a search warrant at the 217 E. Elm St. house. The following items were allegedly found there:

--About three-quarters of a pound of what was believed to be marijuana.

--Drug paraphernalia, including smoking devices like pipes, rolling papers and two scales.

--Thousands of dollars in U.S. currency.

Some of the confiscated items were found inside a safe in the house.

Police arrested James T. Moran for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and also for possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. Moran was taken to county jail in Ellsworth

Charges are pending with the Pierce County district attorney.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department and the U.S. Postal Service assisted in this case.
