Area baseball: Bloomer 10, Ellsworth 9

With the bases loaded and one out and the Panthers up by one in the top of the seventh, Bloomer hit a comebacker to Isaac Hines. The freshman threw home to get the second out of the inning, but the throw from the catcher to first base hit the runner causing the ball to bounce into the outfield.

Bloomer scored four runs in the rain-drenched seventh, and Ellsworth failed to score in the bottom of the inning.

The Panthers threatened in bottom half of the inning. With runners on first and third with two outs, Jake Betthauser hit a floater to third to conclude Friday's game.

"We just couldn't tie it up," Ellsworth coach Steve Block said. "It was disappointing because it was a great comeback."

Ellsworth committed four errors in the game, two of which came in the seventh.

Hines took the loss for Ellsworth, throwing 5 2/3 innings and giving up 4 earned runs.

Dennis Schutz led Ellsworth offensively, going 3-for-5 with four RBI.
