WISCONSIN NEWS BRIEFS:Dodge County woman, dogs killed by train

LOWELL - A 61-year-old woman and her two dogs were killed when struck by a train. The incident happened in Lowell yesterday morning.

The Dodge County Sheriff’s office says Juanita Payton was taking the two dogs for a walk when she was struck by the southbound train on the tracks. The incident is still under investigation.


Wisconsin U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (R-Oshkosh) and Representative Gwen Moore (D-Milwaukee) say they are backing President Barack Obama’s plans of a military attack on Syria. President Obama announced he would seek congressional approval before launching a military strike. Both lawmakers say Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has committed human rights violations and is a threat to international peace. Meanwhile, some activists in Milwaukee protested any military action in Syria, saying bombing the country will solve nothing and there needs to be a diplomatic solution.


U.S. Coast Guard officials say they rescued a 60-year-old man who became ill on a freighter in Lake Superior yesterday afternoon. Officials say the unidentified man begun showing signs of a stroke. That’s when other crew members sent a distress signal to the Coast Guard. The man was taken to a nearby hospital, his condition has not been released.
