WISCONSIN NEWS ROUND-UP: New London couple charged with animal cruelty

NEW LONDON - A Waupaca County couple has been charged with animal cruelty after two dogs were found dead on their property.
Authorities say dogs were discovered at an abandoned house and were decayed to the point of “mummification”. A criminal complaint also shows the interior house was flea-ridden and covered in feces. 20-year-old Joshua Gray and 34-year-old Teresa Spaeth, both of New London, face two felony charges of mistreatment of animals causing death.
 ----- Authorities in south-central Wisconsin say a two-year-old has drowned over the weekend. The Sauk County Sheriff's office have not released many detail, but say the boy lived on a farm. Authorities say at around 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon, the mother briefly lost sight of the child and found him face down in a water tank. Efforts to resuscitate the child was unsuccessful and was pronounced dead on the scene. The child’s name has not been released.
 ----- The CEO of a Madison-based clean technology company says they have created a plant-based, chemical-free soda bottle. Lee Edwards with Virent says the company and Coca-Cola have been looking for a way to make plastic bottles containing no petroleum or plastics. Edwards says the new bottles, presented to Coca-Cola, is 100-percent plant-based and is completely renewable. The soda giant has asked Virent and two other competitors to create a renewable, 100-percent plant-based bottle to be ready for mass production by 2020
