WISCONSIN NEWS ROUND-UP: Door County cherry orchard damaged by vandals

SISTER BAY - An orchard near Sister Bay is offering a one-thousand dollar reward for the arrest and conviction of tree vandals.

The Door County Sheriff’s office says someone cut the tops off 639 cherry trees at the Seaquist Orchard. The damage at the family-owned business is estimated at about $20,000. Owner Jim Seaquist says the trees were planted in April and would have been ready for harvest in five years.


The Vilas County Sheriff’s office says remains found in the Northern Highland Forest is a woman who’s been missing for 17 months. 55-year-old Sandra Schinke was reported missing in April of 2006, last seen walking along the highway where she was found. Authorities say a hunter found her remains, along with a jacket and shoes on Monday. Authorities continue to investigate a cause of death.


A Dodge County Jail worker is accused of sexual conduct with an inmate. Authorities say 45-year-old Lori Larue, of Beaver Dam, was a food service employee at the jail. Kitchen staff reportedly learned of the misconduct after a complaint and say they are training staff members on proper interaction with inmates. Larue was charged with second-degree sexual assault by correctional staff on Thursday.


Authorities say sun glare is to blame for a deadly crash near Madison yesterday morning. A 58-year-old woman from Madison was killed in an eight-car collision, four others were hospitalized with minor injuries. The Dane County Sheriff’s office says the unidentified woman collided with a motorcycle - when she got out of her car, she was struck by another car.
