Yanish opens own accounting business

Brian Yanish spent nearly 10 years working for Richardson Tax Accounting until an ownership change this summer led him to leave the business.

After a few months deliberating, he decided to go out on his own and launch Yanish Accounting and Tax Services, located on Main Street in Ellsworth. Yanish will fill the office space previously held by Jeanne Thompson Accounting in the Woods and Waters building.

“It’s been a little nerve-wracking going on my own, but the support from fellow business owners has been encouraging,” he said.

Yanish, an Ellsworth native, graduated from Ellsworth High School and is the father of three kids who attend Ellsworth Schools. He started work at Fingerhut in St. Paul before it closed. That led him to go back to school, where he got his accounting degree from UW-River Falls. Yanish worked at Treasure Island, owned The Kanyan Bar (now Just Kas) and did residential HVAC before working at Richardson.

With tax season heating up, Yanish advised those out there to keep tax documents together and file taxes in a timely matter. He’s also willing to help high school students file their taxes so they can collect their refund. Once tax time winds down, Yanish hopes to fill the void by bookkeeping, accounting and payrolls.

“In accounting, you are always learning,” he said. “It’s a field of continuous education.”

Yanish said the exterior signs will be ready by Christmas to let passers-by know. He said hours are by appointment or walk-ins are welcome. For more information, call (715) 273-5233.
