WISCONSIN NEWS ROUND-UP: Assembly majority leader could be ousted from post

MADISON - Amid accusations of sexual harassment, state Assembly Majority Leader Bill Kramer (R-Brookfield) could be losing his leadership position.

Republicans say they plan to take a vote to strip Kramer of his power on Tuesday. The Republican lawmaker is accused of groping one woman and making an inappropriate comment to another, during a fundraiser in Washington on Wednesday. Kramer’s office released a statement yesterday saying the pressure of resignation forced the lawmaker to check into a treatment center.

A Madison man has been arrested in Texas on accusations of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 2002. 40-year-old Manual Camposeco is awaiting extradition to Dane County for the crime he committed 12 years ago. According to court documents, Camposeco was arrested and on trial for the crime, but the victim did not show up for court to testify against him. Madison Police say in April last year, the victim told them that she was put on a bus alone to Mexico, preventing her from testifying against the accused. A bench warrant was issued in November, prompting Camposeco’s arrest.
