Dive teams were also called in because of a report that a child had gone in after the woman, but police say there was no evidence of a second person.

Lafayette County officials are suing the estate of an elected official for alleged embezzlement. Robert Hermanson, elected as treasurer and clerk for the Village of Gratiot, is accused of stealing $134,000 over a five-year period from the town. When he was confronted with evidence of the scheme, Hermanson was found dead the next day. Lafayette County authorities ruled his death a suicide. Court records also indicate Hermanson paid himself a salary of $18,000. The position is supposed to be voluntary.

Heroin is already a bad drug, but authorities are warning that a particular batch circulating in Manitowoc could be fatal. Police say the warning comes after two drug users nearly overdosed within a 12-hour period. A spokesperson for Manitowoc Police says if it wasn’t for the quick response of emergency personnel, they would have died. Authorities are quick to note that heroin is illegal and does not condone the use of illegal drugs, but they have an obligation to warn citizens.
