Primary next month for State Public School Superintendent

As expected, there will be a five-way primary next month for Wisconsin's new public school superintendent.

The candidates filed their nomination papers by Tuesday's deadline to replace Elizabeth Burmaster, who's leaving after eight years in the post.

Burmaster's deputy, Tony Evers, is among those who will be on the ballot, along with Beloit superintendent Lowell Holtz, Concordia professor and Thiensville trustee Van Mobley, college professor Todd Price of Kenosha, and Rose Fernandez of the Wisconsin Coalition of Virtual School Families.

Voters will narrow the field to two finalists on Feb. 17.

The general election is April 7, when voters will also choose people to a host of local government offices and school boards.
