State's oldest resident dies

Wisconsin's oldest resident has died.

Florence Busch of Waukesha lived for 112 years and 161 days before she passed away on Wednesday night at the health care center where she lived for seven years.

Her great-granddaughter, Christine Brunner of West Bend, said Busch's death was unexpected despite her age.

She was visiting with a daughter and two grandchildren when she collapsed in her wheelchair.

Robert Young of the Gerontology Research Group said Busch was the state's longest-living resident for about three years.

Charlessa Wiggins of West Allis was the second-oldest until she died last year at 110.

The Gerontology group is based in California, and it's not aware of any other Wisconsinites who are living at 110-or-older.

The group says there are only about 400-500 people worldwide in that category. They're called "super-centenarians."

Florence Busch outlived her husband, a son and his wife, and two grandchildren. Her funeral is set for Monday in Brookfield.
