BoJo's cleans up after water damage

Plumbing difficulties resulted in water damage and a mess to clean up at BoJo's Creations in Ellsworth's west business district last week.

The floral and gift shop was closed at the end of the week after the damage was discovered upon opening up Wednesday, according to owner Bob Larson. Dirty water came through the ceiling from an apartment above, soaking the shop's main floor and basement. A large amount of inventory was either damaged or destroyed.

"We lost almost our entire silk flower section," Larson said Thursday.

He was preparing for two upcoming floral weddings, but had to put the shop's design area back together first, he said, estimating that job would take three-to-four hours. He emphasized getting the interior dried out to avoid having mold develop.

The shop owner said he'd been thinking about rearranging the display floor and the flooding will now cause him to proceed with that project.

"I'm trying to look at this as an opportunity," he said.

Larson was unsure of the exact reason for the water problem, saying he knew there were past troubles with the upstairs drains. He understood the kitchen floor upstairs was found entirely covered by water and was aware ceiling tiles in his shop's space will have to be replaced. He felt insurance should take care of the repairs expense, between that carried by building owner Larry McGrath and his own.
