Birtzer honored as outstanding teacher

ELMWOOD --- On Feb. 19, the Elmwood School Board congratulated Mike Birtzer, Middle School/High School Social Studies teacher, for his selection to the National Honor Roll of Outstanding Teachers.

In further news, the board:

--Approved Jenny Holcomb as a Special Education Aide and the easement for the Department of Natural Resources streambank improvement project.

--Approved the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association co-op with Spring Valley for wrestling, and River Falls, Baldwin-Woodville and St. Croix Central for girls hockey. (The schools make up the St. Croix Valley Fusion, who fell in the sectional finals last month.)

--Heard from Superintendent Barry Rose who, among various items, talked about curriculum work, the Cooperative Educational Services Agency-11 meeting set for March 27 in Turtle Lake, and retirement party thank yous from Karen Peterson and Linda Nelson.

--Talked more about the upcoming referendum, which is detailed elsewhere in this week's Herald.
