Man found in Elmwood

ELMWOOD -- The night of June 9 was a busy one in the Village of Elmwood.

That's because seven different law enforcement and ambulance agencies were trying to find the location of Steven Flora.

According to an incident report supplied by the Elmwood Police Department, EPD received a complaint from Carmen Flora, Steven's sister, who resides at the Ridgeway Apartments, 137 E. Center Ave.

Carmen explained Steven, who has a Brainerd, Minn., address, and Geraldine Cook, Steven's girlfriend, were discussing the citations given to them earlier that day for not paying for services at the Butternut Campground.

She added Steven was getting angrier with each passing second and making statements he didn't want to live anymore. After that, Carmen stated she saw Steven swallow approximately 20 medicated pills, leave her residence and walk into a wooded area northeast of Ridgeway Apartments.

Upon arrival, EPD was able to hear Steven in the woods and asked him to come out. He refused every time.

EPD, along with members of the Spring Valley Police Department and the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, searched the wooded area and the surrounding neighborhood for him, but was unable to find him.

After about an hour, Steven was seen walking west in the 200 block of E. Winter Ave., where he was taken into custody by members of the Pierce and Dunn County sheriff's departments.

Members of the Elmwood Ambulance Service, Elmwood Fire Department and Menomonie Ambulance Service were also on site.
