Village Board delays ball field improvements

What to do with the baseball field at Summit Park was the main topic of discussion for the Ellsworth Village Board during its regular monthly meeting Monday night.

The topic was initially brought up by Trustee Rick Sweig during the June meeting as he felt there were safety concerns abound, specifically with fencing of the dugouts and bullpen.

The matter was discussed during a Parks, Recreation and Development committee meeting after that with representatives that used the field, including the Ellsworth Hubbers and the School District. No recommendation was made as a result of that meeting.

Sweig's main concern is that ballparks in surrounding committees have made safety improvements, so why not Ellsworth at Summit, to prevent injuries from occurring, especially if that happens, the Village would be responsible.

"We make everyone else follow the rules," he said in terms of building guidelines, "...the Village should be held to the same guidelines."
