Three local natives spending the summer working at Minnesota resort

How often has the following been uttered?

Three Ellsworth natives are spending the summer working at a resort ... in Minnesota.

That's exactly what's happening this summer as Barry Hines, Adam Murphy and Jason Fuchs are working at Izatys Resort, located on Lake Mille Lacs, which is about 90 minutes north of the Twin Cities.

Hines is in his fourth year at the resort working as Golf Course Superintendent and Marina Manager. Murphy works mainly on the resort's two golf courses, Black Brook and The Sanctuary and has been there about four years. Meanwhile, Fuchs is spending the summer working the marina before going back to school at Ely, Minn., in the fall.

Hines said he hired Murphy and Fuchs because he knew they would do a great job and so far they have lived up to their word.

"Adam had an upbringing similar to mine with the small town work ethic and the value of family life," he said. "At the resort, he's my right-hand man because he'll put in the time and do whatever it takes.

"I know Jason won't let me down because he's family (the two are first cousins) plus he loves the outdoors, so you put him in a position in which he can have a future and what he wants to go for."

And Murphy and Fuchs return the sentiment.

"Barry has given both of us an opportunity to succeed in our areas of interest," Murphy said. "This has been great for me and great for Jason."
