Prescott woman pleads guilty to one count of embezzlement

A Prescott woman pled guilty last week in Pierce County Circuit Court to one count of embezzlement, a charge punishable by a fine not to exceed $25,000 and/or 10 years in prison.

Mindi K. Larson, 32, W10320 521st Ave., was charged with embezzling $95,715 between Jan. 1, 2002, and Sept. 30, 2004, from the Brandt Law Office in Prescott, where she worked.

According to the criminal complaint, Larson embezzled the money by writing herself payroll checks in excess of the amount she was entitled to and by paying her creditors with checks written on the law office accounts.

By pleading guilty, Larson gave up rights requiring the state to prove she committed the crime, not to incriminate herself, to have a jury trial and to confront her accusers.

The plea agreement was worked out between Jeffrey Gabrysiak, State Assistant Attorney General who is a special prosecutor for Pierce County, and Mark Gherty, Larson's attorney.

Larson will find out her sentence at a hearing scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19.
