Update: Woman who died on Barn Bluff identified
One person died after falling on Barn Bluff Monday afternoon, the Red Wing Fire Department reported.
Mavis Knudson, 75, of Edina, Minn., was hiking on the north trail coming back from the west overlook when she fell shortly before noon. She was pronounced dead at the scene, the fire department reported.
A second person, identified by Red Wing Police as Knudson's son, attempted to rescue her, but also fell and broke his left leg.
A helicopter was requested to assist in the rescue, but could not land in the area. Instead, the man was rescued using ropes and advanced life support.
He was transported to Fairview Red Wing Medical Center at about 2:45 p.m. The patient was in stable condition at the time of transport.
Knudson's body was transported to the Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner's Office and an autopsy is scheduled for today.
Red Wing police assisted firefighter/paramedics at the scene.
