UPDATE: Mondovi man identified as drowning victim in Dunn County

A 60-year-old man sitting on a river bank tumbled in and drowned Monday evening in Dunn County.

The Dunn County E-911 Center received a call from the man’s son at 6:30 p.m.  that his father had fallen into the Chippewa River at the north end of 750th Street in the Town of Peru.

Dunn County Sheriff Dennis Smith explained the man was sitting at the top of the river bank while his son was fishing. He fell down as the two got up to leave, but the son thought his father had gotten up.

When the son got to his car, he discovered his father was not behind him. He then saw his father in the water, pulled him out and began administering CPR. The son or emergency responders were unable to revive the man, and the Dunn County Medical Examiner was called to the scene.

The man was identified as Richard A. Boettcher of rural Mondovi. Smith noted Boettcher's address is actually in the town of Rock Creek, which is located in Dunn County.
