UPDATE: Spring Valley men hurt in Sunday crash both in good condition

Two members of a Spring Valley area family were hurt early Sunday afternoon after their vehicle left CTH B in Spring Lake Township and struck some trees, ejecting both men from the car.

Both were listed in good condition mid-morning Monday at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Dennis Schwede, 63, the driver was airlifted to Regions from the scene at State Highway 128 and Pierce County Road B on the outskirts of Elmwood following the 1:08 p.m. accident.

A second helicopter was summoned to transport his passenger and son, Torence Schwede, 25, but the aircraft was later diverted to meet Elmwood EMS personnel and the patient at the Baldwin hospital. A Baldwin paramedic met their rig while en route and jumped in to assist with Schwede's care.

Pierce deputy sheriff Jean Spletstoser stated in a press release that Dennis Schwede was northbound on Hwy. 128 when he crossed the highway and entered the west ditch, striking several trees. The vehicle went airborne and came to rest in a cornfield, she said. Speed was a factor in the crash.

Deputies were assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, a St. Croix County deputy, Elmwood and Spring Valley firefighters and a River Falls paramedic.
