UPDATE: 3 people in 'critical condition' after Hudson-area crash

Three people remained hospitalized in critical condition after a two-car crash early Wednesday in rural Hudson. St. Croix County Sheriff Scott Knudson said deputies responded at 5 a.m. to McCutcheon Road and County Road A for a crash. The driver and two passengers of a 2008 Toyota Prius were extricated from the vehicle and transported by ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Knudson said. All three were in critical condition at Regions, Knudson said, though he said they were expected to survive. He said the driver was 45-year-old Hudson resident Michael Kupka, who had John Cosentino, 56, Hudson, as his front-seat passenger and 61-year-old Cheryl Cosentino as a back-seat passenger. All three sustained serious injuries, Knudson said, adding that they were on their way to catch a flight. The sheriff said it appeared the Prius was westbound on McCutcheon Road when it failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the second car, a 2011 Dodge Charger that was southbound on County Road A. That car was driven by 36-year-old New Richmond resident David Donovan, who was taken to Hudson Hospital with minor injuries. All four occupants of the vehicles were seat-belted, Knudson said. Deputies remained on the scene for about two hours. The crash remains under investigation. Hudson fire, St. Croix EMS, River Falls EMS and Lower St. Croix Valley EMS assisted at the scene.
