Red Wing man charged with police battery

A bar fight has led to a Red Wing man facing six criminal charges, including police battery.

Anthony E. Johnson, 23, was charged Friday in Pierce County Circuit Court with the six counts. His next scheduled court appearance is a Friday, Dec. 10, 11 a.m. preliminary hearing.

The police battery is the only felony count. It carries a maximum penalty of $10,000 and/or six years prison if found guilty. He was also charged with misdemeanor battery, resisting an officer, obstructing an officer and two counts of disorderly conduct.

According to the criminal complaint, Pierce County Sheriff's deputies were called to the Harbor Bar, N673 825th St., Hager City, around 1:45 a.m. Nov. 19 for several fights occurring in the parking lot.

Deputies became involved in one fight, advising them to stop. An individual didn't listen and was taken down to the ground. Deputies asked others involved why the fight was occurring and they couldn't give a straight answer.

Before placing any of them under arrest, Deputy Collin Gilles turned around and saw another fight starting near the bar's entrance. In his report, Gilles said, he went over and grabbed onto Johnson, "who was very agitated and intoxicated." Gilles led Johnson to his squad car, where he was arrested.
