Flipped! Professor offers reward to catch culprits

Submitted photo

UW-River Falls Plant and Earth Sciences Professor Brian Smith had an old car that he's used for years for campus delivery work upended and wrecked by vandals over the weekend. Smith said he is so disgusted by this senseless act that he's offering a reward for the capture and conviction of those responsible.

The culprits found and used lumber to lift and flip the 1986 Dodge Colt that was parked near the university's greenhouse. The car's roof and windows were smashed and left beyond affordable repair.

Smith said the car, while old, was kept in perfect condition. It was used to run errands and transport mechanical parts and students between the campus greenhouse, nursery and lab farm.

The vandalism occurred either late Saturday night or early Sunday morning. The greenhouse where the car was parked is opposite Hathorn Hall.

Smith is putting up $1,000 of his own money as the reward.

More on this story will appear in the May 18 print edition of the River Falls Journal.
