MINNESOTA NEWS BRIEFS: Man Arrested After Naked High-Speed Chase

NORTH MANKATO, Minn. -- A 34-year-old North Mankato man has been arrested after leading police on a high speed chase in the nude.

Nicollet County dispatchers received several calls that a naked man was standing on a bridge in Seven Mile Creek Park yesterday making lewd gestures. When officers arrived the man had left the park, but witnesses were able to provide a good description of his car. The vehicle was spotted not far away, and officers tried to pull over the driver but he refused to stop. Stop sticks got the car off the road, but the man then refused to get out. Eventually officers broke out a window and pulled him out, and discovered that he wasn't wearing any clothing. He is expected to be charged with running from police, drunk driving, and indecent exposure.

Farm workers from Minnesota and around the nation are in nation's capital to urge Congress to pass stronger legislation to reduce what one estimate says are 10- to 20,000 acute pesticide poisonings yearly in the ag industry. Organizer Alina Diaz says one farm worker told her he's "tired of being treated like a roach, like an insect." Workers say pesticides drift over them while being applied to adjacent fields - or even right where they're working. Protecting farm workers from pesticides is the responsibility of the Environmental Protection Agency, and critics say its standards haven't been updated in more than 20 years. The EPA responds its Worker Protection Standard manual for employers was updated in 2005.

The Red Lake Tribal Police and the F-B-I investigated the case, and arrested Brown yesterday.
