Prescott teen charged with sexual assault

A Prescott teenager is accused of luring a River Falls girl to Freedom Park in June and raping her at knifepoint.

Zachary James Marek, 17, 961 Jefferson St., was charged Oct. 1 in Pierce County Court with two counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count of felony intimidation of a victim. Bond was set at $20,000 cash, but Marek was already in jail on earlier charges. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing at 11 a.m. Oct. 10.

Marek was charged earlier with burglarizing Prescott City Hall in July and has a status conference set for Oct. 15 in that case.

According to the sexual assault complaint, an officer was called to a Prescott convenience store at 5:15 a.m. June 26 to meet with a visibly upset girl.

She told the officer she had gotten a call from a male who identified himself as a friend of hers, telling her he had been left in Prescott by his friends, had injured his ankle and needed a ride home.

The girl said she agreed to come to Freedom Park and was directed to go on foot to an overlook area. She said a male came up behind her, covered her mouth with one hand, showed a knife in the other and assaulted her.

He then fled on foot taking her cellphone and sweatshirt.

The victim said she did not get a good look at her assailant’s face but knew it wasn’t her friend because he is African American.

The girl described the suspect as a white male, wearing a tan sweatshirt, gray boxers, baggy shorts and white and blue shoes.

The girl said she believes her assailant knew her and knew enough about her friends to pose as her friend.
