Guys get into the act for Ellsworth High School Haiti fundraiser

Just when the possibly ugly thought of men being part of a beauty pageant may have faded from area residents' minds, "Diva Dudes" has been revived at Ellsworth High School.

The male mock pageant, featuring a 1970s theme as it returns for a third time, will be staged Monday, March 29, at 7 p.m. at the EHS Auditorium. This time, proceeds from the testosterone-charged festivities organized by the school's "Just Do Something" organization will go toward Haiti earthquake relief through the American Red Cross.

"Mitch (Branscombe) remembered the last one and wanted to bring it back," Anne Pechacek, EHS social studies teacher and the group's advisor, said about how a student originated the latest revival. "The idea of Haiti as a good place for the proceeds came later."

Student Kendra Holdorf will serve as emcee for the approximately two-hour spectacle, which will be judged by the guidance department at EHS.

"We chose them because they know everyone in the school," Pechacek said.
