EHS Homecoming is next week

It will be an action-packed week of activities Ellsworth High School has planned for its annual Homecoming, which will take place all next week. There will also be some change-ups from year's past.

Homecoming Week begins Sunday with Powerpuff Football Under the Lights starting at 7:15 p.m. Seniors girls will take on junior girls under the lights at Fuller-Symes Field. The pep band will play and the Homecoming royalty will be crowned. The game is free of charge to attend but the school asks all those who do attend to bring a goodwill donation of canned food items or money for the Pierce County Food Pantry.

Homeroom door decorating begins Monday until completion at the end of the school day Tuesday. This year's theme is PANTHER PRIDE. Community members are encouraged to vote for their favorite door decoration after school Tuesday and then come and watch the Ellsworth volleyball team take on New Richmond.

Persons can also watch the annual Ellsworth Invitational Cross Country meet Tuesday afternoon which begins at 4 p.m. The finish line on the baseball field behind the bus garage. There's also C squad and JV football games Monday vs. Somerset at Fuller-Symes Field beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Throughout the week there will be games and contests organized by different school groups during lunch periods and each day will have a different dress up theme. High school student representatives will also head to the middle and elementary schools to help younger Panthers get into the spirit.

The week culminates Friday with the PepFest beginning at 2 p.m. There will be more contests to earn points between classes and the annual Tug-of-War between the classes with the winners taking on an all-star team of faculty members. Coaches from the different fall sports will introduce and talk about their teams and student body will rev' up the Panther spirit and Purple Pride with ear-shaking noise in one of the loudest continuous pep rallies around from beginning to end.

At 5 p.m. is the Homecoming Parade down Main St. EHS is encouraging every class, sport, club and organization at the school to build a float for the parade. The school would also like businesses, individuals, families and groups from around the Ellsworth district to also enter floats. prizes will be awarded for the best floats.

After the parade will be the annual Homecoming Chili Feed in the cafetorium and continues until game time when Ellsworth takes on Baldwin-Woodville with the kick-off at 7 p.m.

This year's Homecoming will honor Ellsworth's 1990 WIAA State Football Championship squad celebrating their 20th anniversary reunion.
