SV school board sets mill rate, tax levy

SPRING VALLEY--The Spring Valley School Board approved the tax levy and mill rate for the 2010-11 year last week.

The levy was set at $3,185,281, an increase of 2.5 percent, while the mill rate was 11.61, an increase of $1.08 from last year. Superintendent David Wellington said taxpayers will be looking at a 2.5 percent increase on their property taxes.

Wellington also told the board the September enrollment count showed Spring Valley with 729 students in grades preK-12. It is an increase of seven students from last year.

The board also:

--Approved refinancing of the debt for the middle school/high school building. Wellington said it will save the taxpayers $10,000 in the 2011-12 year and $40,000 the following year. The district has six years left in paying off the debt.

--Approved reinstating coverage of non-school weekdays for Cardinal Kids Club, with the district to look at the financial information again in December.
