Field of architect candidates narrowed

Members of the school board and ad hoc facilities committee met on April 1 to review 10 proposals we received from architects.

The groups ultimately narrowed the field of candidates down to four firms that will be interviewed on April 18 beginning at 4:30 p.m. The following firms were chosen for interviews:

--Smiley Glotter Nyberg Architects (SGN/Wendel),

--Frisbie Achitects/Healy-Bender,

--DLR Group,

The review group and construction manager were very happy to have received 10 very highly qualified firms to review. A good match for district projects has been, and will continue to be, an emphasis of our school board and ad hoc facilities committee. I feel the work of our community and staff members to this point has allowed us to truly define our needs and the values of our community. Bringing a quality architect on board is the next step as we move forward in developing various options for our community to consider.

Kraus-Anderson, our construction manager, has been busy evaluating our current facilities by conducting walk-throughs and reviewing the condition of our buildings and mechanical systems. With the information they are gathering, they are developing cost estimates for us to consider as we look to package and address our needs.

Along with this, we are currently developing a staff survey to provide us with further information from our staff. Please visit our Facilities Study Page on our website to get the latest updates on our progress and to view the presentation made by our ad hoc facilities committee at

We are still early in our process, but making great progress.

Barry Cain is the Ellsworth School Superintendent.
