Farm's the classroom for Pierce County's new 4-H summer assistant

Trevor Odeen set out to become a veterinarian, but changed career course and is now on his way to being an agriculture educator.

Pierce County's new 4-H summer assistant is a senior entering his fifth year at UW-River Falls, he said Friday, explaining the three semesters of chemistry required for the vet program convinced him to try a different direction. Switching majors meant heading into an extra year, however.

The latest choice Odeen faces is exactly what he'll do as an ag educator.

"I'm not sure if I want to be a teacher in high school or a 4-H Youth Agent," he said.

The Loyal native gets the chance to sample the latter when he starts his summer assistant duties in the UW-Extension 4-H office in Ellsworth next month.
