Open enrollment interest mixed in schools in outlying Pierce County

Open enrollment activity in area schools this year was mixed, as compared to last year.

Figures about transfers in and out were slightly lower this time in the Ellsworth and Elmwood districts, but considerably higher in the Plum City and Spring Valley districts.

Officials from area districts shared information last week on the number of applications received during the statewide application period, which began in February and ended in April. The applications show whether the applicants are considering entering their districts for the 2013-14 term or if they're thinking about leaving them.

The figures are preliminary ones and might change by this fall. School boards must act on the applications, which represent requests. State funding is among factors affected by the activity.
