Ellsworth Middle School had the third “Student of the Month” ceremony for the 2013-2014 school year.

November’s theme and focus was “Citizenship.” This is kind of a challenging concept for some students to verbalize what citizenship means to them. Through discussions, they quickly learned the students understand and demonstrate citizenship on a daily basis!

Here are some things the students defined as citizenship: Having family and friends in the military fighting for freedom, picking up litter in and out of school, recycling, being kind to others, following the rules, following the laws, volunteering, caring about the community, watching the news and doing the right thing. These were just some of the students’ amazing explanations and actions of “citizenship.”

Students learned about and discussed this very important character trait throughout the month, and then teachers and staff were asked to nominate two boys and two girls per grade for grades 6-8, and one boy and one girl for each fifth grade class consistently demonstrating the character trait of citizenship. Officials are proud of these Ellsworth Middle School students!
